Day 31

“Numerous crooked streams were tributary to the river.”~~from Chapter 8, “Outlaws, Vigilantes and Sheriffs” in Before Today: A History of Holt County Nebraska, Centennial Edition

My husband’s grandmother let me borrow this history book of Holt County, where we live. She thought it would providd inspiration for  stories and magazine articles. I admit, it is interesting. A lot of firsts happened in Holt County, and some of them weren’t far from our house. The Savidge Brothers were the first barnstormers in the country, and they grew up and built their planes on a farm about five miles from our house. Doc Middleton and several bands of outlaws holed up in this countryside, which is just south of the Missouri River.
