Grab a Book from the Shelf

I must admit, I didn’t come up with this idea on my own. On Facebook, a high school classmate, who I haven’t seen since graduation, told me to grab the closest book, turn to page 56, find the 5th sentence and write that as my status line. So I did.

What I didn’t count on was the the number of friends who told me that was such a fun experiment.

Experiment? Grabbing a book, finding a line, and typing it as a status line?

That caused me to pause. What if I selected a different book every day, opened to page 56, found line 5, and typed it for everyone to see? Would people be interested? Would they grab books off their own shelves and share them with me? Could this be the beginning of a new open dialogue about the world of books and literature and the impact reading has on us? Would I discover new books that need to be added to my reading list?

Would anyone care?

My inner critic ignored that last question and decided that for one year, I will grab a book from the shelf. I won’t plot which book I’m going to select. Trust me, I have more than enough to choose from. I will open the book to page 56, find the 5th sentence, and share it.

Join me in my literary venture. Together, we might be amazed at what we discover!
